ABOUT USThe Cayman Islands Astronomical Society (CIAS) has been bringing together people with an interest in astronomy since 1991. With a goal of promoting astronomy to the public, we hold free star gazing events open to everyone once a month at Pedro St. James Castle in Savannah.
Our Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/caymanastronomy/ will show the next upcoming session or astronomical event. Because of the pandemic no sessions are currently planned. Together with the University College of the Cayman Islands we organize an "Introduction to Astronomy" course, see www.ucci.edu.ky/ for details. CIAS has about 12 members, Mr. R. McLeod is our long time President, previous Presidents were: Chris Cooke, Nick Kelly, George Ebanks and Peter Jackson. CIAS was set up officially as a non-profit organisation by Sian Jennings in 1991. In 2018 CIAS was officially registered as a Non-Profit Organization, our registration number is NP-358. The society is in possession of a portable 12, a portable 10 inch Dobsonian and a Lunt Solar telescope, most members have their own telescope. Planets are only visible at certain times of the year, so if you like to know which planets are visible at the next session click on: www.heavens-above.com and make sure that the date, time and location (GCM) on top of that page are correct.
